THE ROBOT: SOPHIA
The emerging technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) came into light with the fully developed humanoid robot. The name of humanoid robot is Sophia. Sophia marks the beginning of a new era in humanity. Sophia is a robot with the image of middle-aged woman, who is actually six and half years old. It is a machine developed by Hong Kong by the American company Hanson Robotics. Robot was activated in the year of 2015.
Sophia’s main technological quality is her ability to learn human behaviours through her interaction with the people.
DESCRIPTION
Sophia’s eyes are camera with ability to recognise faces she has seen before. Her skin is made up of silicone(special variety), which is flexible for performing facial movement.She has ability to make more than 60 facial expressions. Electronic synthetic voice system that allows her to speak and gesticulate as she makes her speech. The movement of hands and legs is made up of motor control systems. It has IK solvers and path planning for controlling of hands, gaze, and locomotion strategy. Walking body performs dynamic stabilisation for adaptive walking over various terrain.
It also learns from experience which it gains during the interaction with people.All these experiences are accumulating in her memory. Thus it becomes familiar with the culture, customs,feelings,emotions and linguistic styles.when asked to give precise answer on any topic, she googles it. Sophia not only maintain an intelligent talk with people but also accompanies emotional charge that characterises the normal conversation between two people.
WORKING MODE
Sometimes, she is fully in AI autonomous mode of operation, and other times intermingled with human-generated words. Either way,the family of human developers (engineers, artists, scientists) will craft and guide conversations, behaviours, and mind of the robot. In this way, Sophia is both an AI research project, and a kind of living science fiction, driven by principles of character design and storytelling, cognitive psychology, philosophy, and ethics, used to conceptually explore life’s purpose in this time of accelerating change. Therefore creators say that Sophia is a “hybrid human-AI intelligence”.
PUBLIC FIGURES
On November 21, 2017, Sophia was named the United Nations Development Programme’s first-ever Innovation Champion for Asia and the Pacific. The announcement was made at the Responsible Business Forum in Singapore, an event hosted by the UNDP in Asia and the Pacific and Global Initiatives. As part of her role, Sophia will help to unlock innovation to work toward achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. On stage, she was assigned her first task by UNDP Asia Pacific Chief of Policy and Program, Jaco Cilliers.
Sophia has appeared on CBS 60 Minutes with Charlie Rose, Good Morning Britain with Piers Morgan,and outlets like CNBC, Forbes, Mashable, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, and the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Sophia was featured in AUDI’s annual report and was on the cover of ELLE Brasil magazine.Sophia has also appeared in videos and music videos, including The White King, and as the lead female character in pop singer Leehom Wang’s music video A.I.
A Sophia lookalike was portrayed by drag queen Gigi Goode in the “Snatch Game” episode of the twelfth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Goode won the episode with her character “Maria the Robot”, based heavily on Sophia and named after a robot featured in the Fritz Lang film Metropolis.

David Hanson has said “Sophia would ultimately be a good fit to serve in healthcare, customer service, therapy and education”.In 2019 Sophia displayed the ability to create drawings, including portraits.
CONCLUSION
Due to the excellent intelligence gained and in accepting many features of robot, the government of Saudi Arabia in the year of 2017, granted citizenship to the humanoid robot.
